Katie Taylor

Katie Taylor is a National Board Certified Mathematics teacher with more than 25 years of experience helping students build confidence and excel in mathematics. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Elon University and her Master of Education in Mathematics Education from North Carolina State University.

Throughout her career, Katie has taught a wide range of mathematics courses, from Pre-Algebra through Calculus III, including more than 20 years teaching AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC. Her extensive classroom experience allows her to break down complex concepts into clear, meaningful instruction that helps students develop deep understanding rather than simply memorize procedures.

Beyond the classroom, Katie has contributed to the development of mathematics curriculum, served as an AP Calculus Exam Reader, and presented professional development for educators on supporting advanced learners and providing timely, effective feedback.

Melissa Poteat

Melissa is an experienced mathematics educator with more than 12 years in the classroom helping students develop confidence and a deeper understanding of mathematics. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education from Appalachian State University.

Throughout her career, Melissa has taught a wide range of mathematics courses, from Algebra I through Precalculus, with particular expertise in Honors and AP Precalculus. Her classroom experience has shaped her belief that truly understanding mathematics goes far beyond memorizing formulas and procedures. She helps students uncover the why behind the math, connect new concepts to what they already know, and recognize how mathematical ideas build upon one another.

Melissa is especially skilled at breaking challenging concepts into clear, manageable steps so students feel less overwhelmed and more confident in their abilities. She creates a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, learning from mistakes, and developing the persistence needed to tackle increasingly challenging mathematics.

Briana Visone

Briana Visone is a certified Mathematics Teacher with more than 20 years of experience helping students strengthen their mathematical understanding and confidence. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Manhattan University, her Master of Arts in Mathematics Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.

Throughout her career, Briana has taught mathematics from Pre-Algebra through AP Calculus AB and has extensive experience providing targeted math intervention for students who need additional support strengthening foundational skills. She specializes in math intervention, Algebra 2, and AP Calculus AB, bringing more than 12 years of AP teaching experience to her work.

Briana is known for creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking academic risks, and working through challenging concepts. Her approach combines clear, purposeful instruction with encouragement and high expectations, helping students move beyond simply completing problems to understanding the mathematics behind them.

At Girls Who Solve, Briana helps girls develop the skills and confidence to become independent mathematical thinkers. Her goal is not only to help students improve academically, but also to help them approach challenging mathematics with greater curiosity, perseverance, and belief in their own abilities.
